Booby Pritchard 09-01-07, 06:48 PM Has anyone got any really helpful books??
I was thinking i could really do with knowing and reading of someone who has been through it all again and again, this way, that way, all over again, round and round, up and down and everything in between.... and has come through and stayed through.
Anything, actually. Any books of hope, faith, etc... anything positive
enlighten me!!
Chris V 09-01-07, 07:00 PM Yes. I'll send a reply ASAP.

why e-mail?
No offence intended
Hi Chris, yes, best bet is to discuss on the forums. Thats what its here for :)
Also, you'll find you start to get more spam if you post your email address on public forums. I've edited the post to remove the email address, but please let us know on the forum.
Chris V 10-01-07, 06:10 PM Sorry, didn't have enough to write a lot. Still don't. I'll come back to it soon.
Chris V 10-01-07, 06:55 PM Hello. As well as the Linden Method (obvious one) I think the best book is "How to free yourself from Trauma, Phobia & Anxiety in 7 days" by Robert Mantell. Check out www.fearintopower.com. One great help to me was Easy Calm www.easycalm.com, which send you newletters.
With regards to books, I lost a lot of money ordering books that weren't relevant to me. Be selective according to your own case. There's loads on-line. I did have a few (mostly in the bin now). The best one's to buy are one's written by people who've experienced the appropriate anxiety's that you may be suffering.
I would say that books on herebal remedies for anxiety and mental health are a definite no-no.
(I already got at least 500 spams a month, so it's a bit late on that one)
Booby Pritchard 10-01-07, 08:33 PM Ok. I'll have a look asap. I'm on the lead of a few things right now and want to follow it through.
(Just for your interest) I have the 'self-help for your nerves' books by Claire Weekes (their pretty good and offer a sound recovery method. Although they were written in the 70's. Still....). I have one which i really really regret buying. I won't bother you with that!
Thats it!
I realised early that alot of money can be spent on nothing and don't intend to jump into anything.
The problem, with most of these books, is they don't really offer immediate help OR the right personal help you think you need.
I've become a mild hyperchondriac trying to self diagnose myself too!
Chris V 10-01-07, 09:20 PM PS. Booby Pritchard. I am one of those people who came through and stayed through. I am the genuine article. I joined this site as an ex-sufferer of anxiety disorder because I don't like to see people suffering like I used to suffer. Which was why I gave you my E-mail address. I now lead a happy, anxiety free life. So E-mail me if you want.
Hi all
I am 56 years old and have had anxiety/phobias/ocd (mild) since 21 years
old. They come and go in waves according to situations going on at the time.
Yes it is tiring and sometimes really depressing, but just think of the good times
that really do happen even if you think they will not. The old saying of
'tomorrow is another day' really does apply here.
I've had many alernative therapies/counselling etc., and also cognitive
therapy. One very good source of help is 'No Panic' which is a charity
on www.nopanic.org.uk. They have help lines, one to one counselling and
best of all if you pay £8.00 per year to be a member, they send you a
brochure every other month with journals from people who are suffering
just like all of us. They also have a 'Kevins Korner' with advice from Prof.
Kevin Gournay, a highly respected man who deals with anxiety/panic.
These brochures have really helped. They make you see you are not
alone especially as the help line is open for most of the day with
experienced people to listen to you.
As I said before, tomorrow really is another day and however awful
today has been, tomorrow could be so different.
Good luck.
Gill R.
Just a follow up to my email whilst my OCD is mild, my health/death phobia and
anxiety is acute. I've had a lot of the symptoms associated with those, so if
I can be of any help to anyone, I'll do my best.
