HI,

My friend has been suffering from panic attacks for over 5 years. He has tried hypnosis but without success. I was wondering if anyone had ever been hypnotised and if so, did it help?

Thanks

Dora

No, I really don't think hypnotherapy can help. I haven't had a panic attack for almost 2 years now, I've got a section on what is a panic attack on my website www.curedfromanxiety.com, but I can't really explain it that well so I've provided a link. He (your friend) should take a bottle of water wherever he goes to drink & write on his hand 'breathe evenly' if he feels the onset of a panic attack.

No, the problem with hypnotherapy is that you have to pay for it too, which can cause anxiety in itself, but that's just my opinion. It may work wonders, but I never tried it.

I have tried hypnotherapy and actual found it to be very helpfull, though as Chris mentioned the cost is a major downside.

I think it also depends on what sort of person you are in terms of it's effect, it's no miricale cure, but I found it gave me a real boost in my positive thinking (though this did seem to wear off for me, yet that may be because I only went a couple of times.)

If your friend doesn't mind paying I would deffinatly recomend that he give it a try.

I found it very helpful short term, though I only attended 2 sessions. Purhapse if Ihad continued with it then it would of had more of a lasting effect, it is certainly bennificial and the techniques taught to me still come in handy to lessen the severity of a panic attack.

I would recommend it, it is safe and a thoughrougly relaxing experience that did leave me feeling relativley anixety free for a week or so, the only downside I found was the cost.

There are probably some great hypnotherapists out there, I never tried it myself (it costs money).

Hi

I think most anxiety sufferers would happily pay for hypnotherapy - even if it ran into hundreds of pounds - if they had some kind of guarantee that it would work. Unfortunately, this is not possible.

I am a great believer in hypnosis and I regularly practice self-hypnosis but it works for some people and doesn't work for others.

It is a profession that is very poorly regulated and - even if you are receptive to hypnosis - you never know whether the practitioner you are visiting is actually any good at it.

My advice to anyone who is considering hypnosis is to read about the actual process on the internet first. There is loads of information out there about what hypnosis is and how it works and I think people may benefit from it more if they know what to expect before they go into a session.

I am with Chris on this. I don't believe hypnotherapy can cure anxiety. Your anxiety may feel like it comes out of the blue, but it does not. There is something in your memory (contious or subcontious) that causes it.
The effectiveness of hypnotherapy has been discussed and heavily doubted in science during the last decade. Some scientist claim it is purely placebo, but I don't want to agree on that. I think hypnotherapy can soothe you, it can strengthen your self-confindence, all of which helps you on your way out of the anxiety, but unless you find the root of the anxiety and deal with it, you are always in danger to have an attack again.
Basically, it is a healthier alternative to tablets, and if you find it does not work, try something else. ;)

i was coming onto this to talk about triggers but ill save it but i will say, just like life after death, heaven, nothing, reincarnation.....maybe theres not black and white several/all answers could be right, in some people maybe its subcontious, some people maybe its placebo, all answers could be right...

i not saying it is but i am saying all posibility are possible..
