Hi all

not been on here for a while so hope you are all AWAP.. I know from previous posts that some of you are on Citalopram or similar. Got a query RE side effects, I started taking them last night as the depression as come back big time due to the pain and exhaustion from M.E, I was on fluoxetine last year and had terrible side effects which is why GP as put me on these. 20mg a day but on the pharmacist advice I am taking half a tablet for the first few days and the go up to full dose. I know that it can take a few weeks for the benefits but did you noitice side effects straight away or did they come on after a few days. Reason Im asking is this when I woke this morning I had a very dry mouth a raging thirst, and felt even more tired than usual.
Could this be side effects or not this soon.

Sorry if this doesnt make much sense brains a bit foggy from the M.E

Hi Jaynemaria

The pharmacist has done what doctors normally do, to start on a smaller dosage for the first week or so.

Unfortunately, the side-effects start as soon as you start the medication - feeling sick, dry mouth, runny nose, etc. You will probably find that your anxiety increases before they start to work too.

Hi Jayne

I've been on Citalopram for over 6 weeks now and I started feeling bad side-effects within a few hours of taking my first 20mg tablet. I had nausea and a dry mouth, then the following day I had a severe migraine-type headache. I called NHS Direct a couple of times because I was worried about the side-effects but apparently it's quite common. The worst of the side-effects started to wear off after a week and then after about a month I started to feel more positive effects as the drugs started to work properly.

I think what you're experiencing is fairly normal with Citalopram but if you are worried mention it to your doctor.

I hope this has been of some help :)

Thanks for the replies, I guessed that it was probably side effects, its a shame the positive effects dont hapen as quickly!!!! What ever the side effects am gonna try to stick them out because I have heard good reports about this drug and its hard enough to cope with the ME without the dark thoughts I had last week.

Take care all

Jayne
