Panic Attack?

Okay,
a couple of weeks ago, I was sitting on the couch and all of a sudden, without instigation, I started to feel "weird." I still can't think of a word to describe how I felt. I started to feel like I was fading, or surreal, kinda like a dream. I got up and started to move around because I felt dizzy and like I was going to black out. I was afraid to lay down because I didn't feel right, althought I felt very dizzy. Then I felt like someone had shot me up with adreline or something, but the energy was useless because I felt so weak. I felt patches of heat move to different parts of my face and I could feel my pulse racing and my heart was beating really fast. I got really cold, but I live in TX and it was really hot outside and the air was set to 78. I began to shake uncontrollable and the shaking got so bad that I had to put something in my mouth to keep my teeth from gnashing together, I am suprised I did not crack a crown. I laid there and tried to eat something because I did not know was the heck was going on, but I could not chew anything, it's like my mouth was unacustomed to food. I spit out the food and laid there. I was mentally freaking out and I thought I was going to pass out and wake up in a hospital. I finally decided to take some xanax which is prescribed to me for occasional anxiety attacks (.05 milgrams). In a couple of mintues the shaking stopped and I felt normal again. I know what anxiety is, and I would have labeled it so, but I was not doing anything like yelling, or getting upset or anything, I was watching tv and was in a great mood, and it suddenly came on. I don't have the money to go and get all kinds of tests, can someone help me understand what the hell happened? Since then I have expierenced a few more attacks like the first. What is going on? and if it is something like anxiety, why is it producing such physical symptoms. Dude, this was way out of my control and it scared the shit out of me.
Thanks!

Felt like I was reading something I had written to describe how my attacks are. I have had them for 11 years now. I am not a doctor so I can't tell you for sure, but I'd say you are experiencing some very intense attacks. 90% of the time I have them, I am in a calm setting. Enjoying a movie, listening to music, driving my car, I never know when one will hit me. I do think you should go to the doctor and make sure there isn't something more serious at fault. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Most of the time I went it was more just answeing questions than it was them running tests. The best thing to do is try to control your breathing, this will help slow your heart rate. If not sometimes it also help to get up and excersice. Attacks are usually a sudden release of adriniline, find a release for it. It's hard to give advice on these because each person is affected differently. I do know that contributing factors are smoking, drinking, caffine ,and stress. I would try to avoid as many of those as possible. Hope that helps a little.
God Bless
