Hello

Do any current members practice yoga? Do you find it beneficial?

A couple of people have recommended it to me so I hired a DVD from the library and tried it for the first time last night. I was surprised how quickly I could feel it in my muscles with it being so low impact. I was also shocked at how inflexible I’d become! I don’t think I’ll be up to doing the crab for a while ;)

I did find it very relaxing though. Not sure how much was down to the actual yoga and how much was thanks to Patricia Walden’s soothing voice and all the candles and joss sticks I’d lit!

Does anyone else find yoga beneficial?

I love yoga!!! I just started it this summer, but it's already one of my new favourite hobbies. I don't like Ashtanga, because the fast pace just stresses me out more, but Hatha is awesome, as long as it's challenging enough. I've been taking the free Friday afternoon yoga/stretch class at school, and the instructor is really nice, she doesn't mind when I modify the moves to make them more challenging. For example, just this past Friday, I did three-legged dog while the rest of the class did regular downward dog, and when the teacher said to do a forward bend with our fingertips on the floor, I put my palms on the floor. I love being able to push myself a little more every time, but in a "personal best" kind of way.

I love yoga it has seriously changed me. Since starting a year ago i have become calmer, happier and am sleeping better.Plus it has cured my long suffered back ache!
I prefer going to a class to doing a dvd though as i think there is a lot to be said for doing yoga with other people. This might sound weird but for me it feels as though im receiving positive calming energy from everyone else in the room as well as my own-its wonderful : )
I think the breathing element is the thing that really calms me down and enables me to let go of the stresses of the day. When i can i like to go to the spa for the day and just chill out in the steam room and relaxation area, practicing my breathing exercises.Waterfall spa in Leeds is great for this as they have the nicest relaxation area ive ever seen! Its like a boudoir : )
Check it out http://www.waterfallspa.co.uk/spatreatments.php
