Coming off medication

After a traumatic experience I suffered major depression and eventually massive panic attacks, palpatations, feeling dizzy and faint.

After taking atenonol for about a year and being sent do a phsyciatrist (whom i thought a waste of time by the way) my medication was changed to Propranolol 20Mg morning 20Mg night.
This has been going on for approx three years now and I’m starting to come out of the tunnel and feel much better on my own.

I want to stop the Medication now but no matter how I try the feeling of panic returns slightly and makes me start taking it again.

One doctor told me I could just stop taking them as it is only a low dose I am having, another told me I need to cut back slowly reducing the medication on a one day on one day off basis as I will experience withdrawal symptoms
And a third doctor has suggested I must continue to take the tablets for the rest of my life.

I can’t find any info on anyone who has managed to withdraw from their medication.
Anyone out there have any ideas ?

I don’t feel like I will have fully recovered until I can stop.
At the moment I am taking my morning dose only but by bedtime I do feel slightly weird.
Any suggestions ?

Would'nt it be a good idea if the powers that be made a patch (a little like a nicotine patch for smokers) to wean people dependant on there medication off of it? I'm lucky in the respect i do not take any prescribed medication (my own decision not to) I feel sorry for people like yourself who feel confident to take the next step forward but feel held back by the prospect of going "cold turkey"

Wishing you all the best, Dont give up!

Thanks for your messages,
i have been slowly reducing my medication over a long time now and will let you know how things go.

I have had a suggestion that i buy a Blood pressure machine (£10) and keep an eye on it for safety.

i'm down to Morning tablets only and missing from time to time

At the moment i just feel a bit weird:o
so maybe i'm back to normal:D
