Hi, I'm new to this forum :)

I have just started treatment for panic attacks, my doctor has prescribed Citalopram. I've only been taking them for a week and have been told they won't be effective for at least a fortnight.

The only major side affect I have noticed so far is a complete loss of appetite and occasional nausea, has anyone here experienced the same?

Hi

I was on those for years and took myself of them, they do help a great deal, however the side affects are a pain. I lost a lot of weight and ended up only eating very little all day. If you can put up with it then stick with them but there is other tablets. I found these helpd the most try and make yorself eat little and often.

I've been on Citalopram for ages but I think they're pretty ineffective at treating anxiety. I've been on 10mg, 20mg and 40mg. I find that they mess with my sex drive more than anything. They do help me to stay that little bit calmer, but I don't think they're the best thing for treating anxiety.

Hello my name is Danny, My doctor perscribed me this because I was having way too many side affects from Prozac....so he put me on this...it takes awhile to overcome the wierd side affects but give it time and hang in there and you will find that this is a miracle drug...it has totally taken away my anxiety and panic....the only downside is it takes about two to three weeks to kick in as with most psych meds because your brain has to get use to the chemical change. but once this happens your appetite should go back to normal and you should start fellin great. I had been tested with all kinds of meds such as ativan...Seroquil.....clonazepam and this med is the only one that doesnt give me the uncomfortable and ache feeling side affects that the rest do...so I say give it awhile longer if it doesnt start working soon I would definitely consult you psych doctor and see what he can change around....one downfall to these sicknesses is there is alot of experimenting that neesds to be done in order to find what works for you...but you will eventually find one that you are comfortable with and should start decreasing these awful feelings....hope I was able to help....Danny :)

My "side effects" have all been quite pleasurable and actually helped fight depression:

*tingly hypersensitive skin (great massages!)
*delayed ejaculation but much better orgasms
*food tastes better than ever in my life, although appetite is the same
*euphoria
*increased empathy (feeling in love with everybody)
*warm and cold rushes
*sweating
*short but heavy sleep
*vivid dreams

Hi

There is a drug called Escitalopram which (reportedly) has fewer side-effects than Citalopram. Ask your doctors about it.

I tried it for a short time and I experienced a dry mouth but not much more. It had a limited affect on my anxiety but it wasn't half as bad as some of the drugs I've taken.
