You can get Rescue Remedy from Boots in a small pipette bottle with a yellow label.

I tried this when I was flying to America a couple of years back. On approaching the mainland of the coast of New York, there was the most terrifying turbulence I've ever experienced (and I'm pretty well travelled). So bad in fact that I grabbed the arm of the man next to me!! LOL

Beforehand I had taken the recommended dosage on the bottle and admittedly I was still a little tense. However, after the turbulence started, I started swigging from the bottle and felt quite docile. After an hour of bad turbulence and half a bottle of Rescue Remedy, I was kind of used to it.

So yes, it works - but don't operate machinery or a vehicle when using it.

I feel that it would be prudent to remind people that they shouldn't exceed recommended doses of any treatment.

Hi Chrissy,

Kalms work for me, but it took 5 days taking 2 tablets 3 times daily before i felt any effect. I think each individual needs to find there own remedy or way of coping, my doc gave me some tablets and they made me really ill, yet other people on this forum swear by them. I'm affraid it's trial and error. Good luck with you quest .

All the best,

Hi Bella

Do you think the kalms do work for you or do you just feel assured because you've taken something? Could it be a placebo effect?

hi to you both.

it could be in my head i suppose, never really thought about it until now,but i'm not bothered if it helps! I have tried doctor prescribed medicine but they made me really ill. Because i know kalms are herbal it helps me deal with the possible negative bad side of taking them such as side effects. I know i can't get any! My doctor told me the tablets he prescribed would only work if i believed they would, so in that respect if they had worked, that would have been in my head to. Weird Huh?! Perhapes they would have worked if i had'nt believed i could get side effects!

What do you take?

Hi Chrissy, ;)

I have a young baby, hes just gone 14mths so he does'nt really know whats going on. I try not to let it effect my relationship with him. Mostly it does'nt, when its very bad there is always someone there for me. My partner is very supportive, although i don't think he can really get his head around the whole thing. On bad days hes my rock, along with my mom whos borrowed every anxiety book available from the local library to try and get some clarity on the subject! I work part time and don't have to be in work until 1.30 so i can pace myself in the mornings, as you say,the mornings are always the worst. Some mornings i phone my mom in a panic, feeling extreamly ill and she calms me down or comes to help me out with my son while i get ready and try to get my head together. Despite all of this my mom is incredibly unsymapthetic at times! She gives me harsh talkings to and tells me i have to pull myself up for the sake of my son. This strangely, works and i summone strength from places i can't explain. Some days my son, partner and mom are the only people i can face or be around. Its a trust thing i suppose.

Ohh, nearly forgot. I've been to see one of these chinese herbalists today in town. He recommended some stuff (i did'nt buy any, i thought it was quite expensive) If you are getting desperate and feel like trying something new, perhapes you could go and see one yourself? Its worth a look......

I'm so glad that you managed to get to the train station, you did very well. I bet you aws quite proud when you saw your hubbies face!

I think insecurity has a big part to play with your fear of adults. I know it sounds daft, but if i talk to somebody i have any interest in (say they are good looking, new, interesting) i start to face sweat dreadfully. Obviously this is uncomfortable (especially with the make up thing) and i have to make excuses and get out of there way. I know its the anxiety, but i get so paranoid that i have to move. I never used to be like this. Even in the earlyer days of being worried about my makeup, i could at least talk to new people. I feel very inferior to people sometimes. Other times i just chat crap (not meaning to)! Then they just go away of there own accord!

Chrissy, Ok, this is a long one!

My anxiety seems to come in waves. I can have 2 good weeks, one bad etc... I have had lots of days where i can't get out of bed and my partner has had to run around doing everything. What i do try to do is make the best of the good days. I don't worry about the tedious chores and such, i go out when i feel good and tidy when i feel up to it or the weathers bad. My partner does lots of housework to, we help eachother.

As for work, its not been long since i was on the sick for a month and nearly packed it all in (nearly gave in to my anxiety, not good!). Luckily, my boss is very supportive and i got through it. She has even offered me a new role that she thought i would find more enjoyable and i have taken it. This means i will be doing 2-7pm, so the terrible mornings will be easier to get through without rushing and making myself ill. It always helps to be totally honest, some people are very good. Work is weird, it takes every effort to get there, but once i'm there i actually feel better. I can't drive, so the long walk to my moms (who looks after the baby while im at work) and then on again to work helps me clear my mind. I have a tough time when it rains because of the makeup phobia, but my mom usually picks me up if its too bad.

I'm no superhero Chrissy! I just want to get on with my life and am desperate for this shitty little illness not to stop me. I push myself so hard somedays to get through the day, i feel like a zombie, just waiting to crawl back into bed and see what tomorrow brings.

I do think you are having a much more of a rough deal out of anxiety than i am. Recently i've felt better more than ill. I don't know why and i don't want to tempt fate, but i'm certain one day anxiety will be a thing of the past.

Its good to set yourself goals. Decide what you want out of life. Then make god damn sure the anxiety won't stop you. It could be something as small as going to the shop on a very bad day to something big like writting a application form (this is good because you don't have to face anybody, then if you do get a interview you know you've done well and your confidence sores) for a job or joining a course or class (painting or dance, everyone is a stranger so everyone will feel a little anxious at first) Maybe, you just need something to pick you up, a focus on which you can put alot of energy into, to pass the time and take your mind off things.

My favourite saying is "Life happens when you are busy doing other things". I can't remember who said it or where i heard it. But put into a anxiety filled world, its so true. When we are occupied, anxiety goes on its holidays and we get a life!

I recommend the herb Valerian Root. It has helped me get through stressful situations that cause panic attacks. I've used it in business to get through meetings and presentations. Also, used it to weaken panic attacks and anxiety going to the airport to take flights. In the U.S., you can buy a ton of it almost anywhere, and it's cheap. But I recommend buying reliable brands. It should generally be taken 30 minutes prior to the time frame you need it, but you can break open the capsules and absorb it into your mouth at a much faster pace. I recommend avoiding that because it tastes terrible. It seems to last for about an hour or two. It's not addictive, and in the U.S. you don't need a doctor to get it. It can make you a little drowsy but usually the hyperactivity you experience at an anxious time counteracts the drowsiness. You also need to take a sufficient dosage at least one gram but probably two grams or more to really feel the calming effect. I've never experienced any ill effects from it or experienced any ill effects taking it with other herbs, but I don't know about this if prescription drugs are involved. Experiment at your own risk. I only take this in stressful situations if absolutely necessary. I try to push through the anxiety without using the back up.

Having googled Seredyn it seems a bit dear - but then, I am such a skintflint. Kalms contain valerian but at a much lower dosage than Keith`s recommendation. Chrissy, you can easily buy valerian online, have seen several sites offering it.

Hi Amanda

I am speaking in a personal capacity here but I'm sure the administrators would agree that buying treatments online, even herbal treatments, can be a very risky business because you can never verify that you are getting what you think you are. I would definitely not recommend it to anyone.

At least if you buy it from a pharmacist or herbologist, you know it is the genuine product.

Hi Chris - You`re absolutely right, I too wouldn`t dream of ordering herbal treatments from any old joe blogs outfit. I do buy supplements and vitamins from a well established and highly reputable internet company, didn`t quite make that clear ...

I`ve been looking at your site, there`s a lot of interesting stuff there.
