HI-
I recently had a severe panic attack. Symptoms included sweating, feeling of something in my throat, loss of breath, rapid heartbeat & the feeling as if I'm dying or going crazy. The doctor perscribed just 10 xanax & said to only take if I feel one coming on. Since then I've had about 4 attacks. Does anyone know any remedies for this? Something natural besides having to take a pill to to relax. I work in a people enviornment & it necessary for me to stay focused.

Nikki, believe me when I tell you that there is nothing you can 'take' for panic attacks or anxiety. There exists no pill etc that has any long term therapeutic affect BUT not only that, any pills you take will only serve to mask symptoms which will come back eventually when you withdraw the drug etc.

The only natural way to become anxiety free is to remove the behaviour which fuels it... you can do this quickly and permanently take a look at my website to see how I advocate to do it. Link below.

As someone who has suffered the exact same symptoms for over twenty years, I don't agree that medication does not have a use in treating anxiety, but in conjuction with relaxation, and cognitive behavioural therapy, often called CBT. Please e-mail me if you wish to discuss your symptoms further.

Hi Jeremy,
Medication has to be a personal choice what works for one person does not work for another and I think we need to honour that.
I took Diazapam for 8 years from the time I was 22-30.
I stopped taking it and haven't had any drug since and I am 57 now. I personally choose not take anything but that does not mean you shouldn't. I have found ways that have worked very well for me in the past and I will continue to lokk for solutions in new ways to deal with it.The one thing I know is that I have come through this before and I will this time.. It takes time and a determination to do whatever it takes.

I respect your reply, but the opinion of the majority of world experts is very simple. Medication is 20% of the answer other treatments make up the other 80%. Medication is reconised as not being a quick fix, which it certainly is not...but neither is it wise to remove from your treatment either altogether.

Also not everbody has the strong will and determination that you seem to have. Many Many people need medication to help them on the way to not recovery, but control of their condition.

i have been taking 6mg of valium a day for about 11 years, occassionaly I take an extra 2mg in a day. They seemed like a miracle at first, no more panic attacks, no more depression. For years they worked wonders, but I became tolerant to them and have refused to increase my dose. Now my panic attacks are back despite the medication, and here I am physically dependant on a drug that no longer works. I mean I dont feel anything when I take them to relieve panic, I just have to take them because I feel really weird when I try to go without them. If you choose to use the xan
ax, it can be helpful, but I suggest that you not use daily, or at the first sign of nerves. I suggest you only use them during the worst times that trigger panic, such as with me PMS, what ever applies to you. At the same time I suggest you do cognitive therapies or whatever you find that helps you.
