CBT doesn't work, I know. Anxiety isn't just a behaviour condition, it's a THOUGHT condition too. That's why it fails. Don't try CBT, & the humiliation of it.

Hi Chris

You can't qualify a statement like "CBT doesn't work".

Some people respond well to CBT, some people respond well to exposure therapies, some people respond well to drug therapies, some people respond well to hypnotherapy. Just because it hasn't worked for you that doesn't mean it won't work for other people. No two people have the same chemical make-up and no two people have the same perception of any given experience.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is supposed to address your thoughts (cognitions) as well as your behaviour and, just like hypnotherapists or any other kinds of therapists, there will be those who are good at it and those who are not so good at it.

It would be more helpful to the people here if you could describe your experiences of CBT and then let them make their own minds up about whether it is worth a try.

Very true. No two people have the same chemical make-up. It didn't work for me, that's why I knocked it, but I suppose it can work for other people.

HI Chris,

I have just started CBT and at first I was not too confident in it at all. I felt like i was going no where and it wasn't helping. I have had 4 sessions all up and found that the last one was really good. We actually got somewhere and my therapist pointed out a lot of good points that i had not even realised... I am still not overly confident that it will work but am prepared to give it a go because I really want to get better.

What made you think it didn't work to well? Is there any other types of thepary you have tired that you found helped you?
