Ever picked up a close ones habits?? this is the same thing. You are not destined to have anxiety you will always have control. kate T-LAB 26-12-04, 11:35 AM I am a anxiety sufferer my mom is too i think i haven't actually asked her yet.. I found out lastnight at a party that 2 of my older cousins have it too.. (even though i have anxiety i still did my comedy n rapping routine on stage) no its not genetic as was said it's just a change in behaviour.. The world would be an even more anxious place if it could be passed on genetically. snake 04-01-05, 03:38 PM My half sister has panic. My parents don't but they are insecure, however they can overact it. I am in a state where I can't pretend to be alright, I just feel miserable. kendra 11-01-05, 04:24 PM none of my parents have panic attacks but my daughter does, and i was sure it was genetic. In some ways it is more scary to think she has picked it up from me as a habit. Supporter Kate 11-01-05, 05:09 PM i know it can be a shock but believe me it is the case. Make sure you help yourself first though before you go any further as the first and best way you can help your daughter is by eradicating your own behavioural habits. kate T-LAB 01-02-05, 03:07 AM is it a good idea to have a drink after work on usual occasions if you have anxiety?. Old_Anonymous_Members 21-02-05, 11:32 PM The following is taken from the American Psychiatric Association website on Panic Disorders. "There is also some evidence for a genetic predisposition; if a family member has suffered from panic disorder, you have an increased risk of suffering from it yourself, especially during a time in your life that is particularly stressful." My husband and son both suffer from panic disorders. While isolated panic attacks are not always familial, there has been scientific research documenting hereditary links in those suffering from panic and anxiety disorders. Recently it has come to light that my husband's niece and possibly his nephew also suffer from some form of anxiety disorders. While families don't always share information about these types of disorders with one another, I urge you to be open with your family members. Shared family information can help panic sufferers regain independence and control. Jj 25-02-05, 05:32 PM db/usa i totally agree. The more open we are as sufferers, the more understanding and less stigma there would be. Supporter Kate 06-03-05, 09:29 PM so true db and co. things can often escalate if things are kept hidden. I have seen it destroy many a situation. Old_Anonymous_Members 15-05-05, 03:29 PM none of my parents have panic attacks but my daughter does, and i was sure it was genetic.
