Hi, I'm Jo, 26 from Australia

I used to suffer from anxiety and panic disorder.

The absolute best advice I could give on overcoming it, is GET INFORMED!!!! Buy every piece of material you can get your hands on, you can definitely get over anxiety and panic attacks without medication.

Medications only mask the problem, and although it can sometimes bring some temporary relief, it won't guarantee an anxiety free life. You must have a full understanding of how it develops, and an understanding what you can do to eliminate it.

I put anxiety in two major categories. "Appropriate Anxiety" and "Inappropriate Anxiety"

An example of "Appropriate Anxiety" is being chased by a bunch of thugs that are going to hurt you. In this case, anxiety is very beneficial for you. It increases your adrenlin giving you more power, sharpens your vision, hearing and sense of smell. Giving you the ability to either stick around and fight or run from danger.

This type of anxiety can save your life, and is built-in to us from birth

Then you have "Inappropriate Anxiety". An example of "Inappropriate Anxiety" is entering a shopping centre and suddenly your struck with fear, your heart begins to race, you feel you can't breathe, whatever your symptoms may be. Because your not in ANY danger. This is inappropriate can be eliminated, you just need the knowledge and practise it to nip this on the butt.

Once you get yourself informed and get a real good understanding you won't suffer with anxiety disorder anymore. In fact, you can even eliminate a lot of other natural anxieties in your life eg. facing the dreaded
dentist. I actually used to have quite a fear of needles, I'd have to be dying to get a blood test. But now I will go get a blood test without kicking up a stink. I re-adjusted my thinking on it. Sure, its still unpleasant, but if you allow your anxiety to get the better of you, you only make the experience a thousand imes worse.

Sure, every once in a blue moon I get a flutter for a few seconds. But I know how to disarm it. The moment it comes on, I say to myself "I know I don't have any lung problems" (variation depends on what I experience). It goes away. Then I look at the work load or stressful situation I am in at the time to bring it on, and make adjustments accordingly.

I hope this information has been beneficial for some of you. And GET INFORMED!!!! Learn as much as you can about the subject. The absolute best advice you'll ever get about conquering anxiety and panic attacks come from those that have been there and came out the other end.

I hope this post has brought some comfort to sufferers. I really do wish and hope for you all to have an anxiety & panic free life. You will be stronger for it when you come out the other end. I promise you that.

Wishing you all the best,

Jo

That was an AWSOME post,Jo!
I was diagnosed w/PD last year. But during that time,I have read anything & everything I can get my hands on in order to conquer & overcome the "Panic Trick". Sufferers need to realize & BELIEVE that what they fear,is just a lie. There is absolutely nothing to fear at all. I am also a strong believer in Christ & my faith in him has also helped me to overcome. I haven't had a panic attack in months. Lastnight I felt some frissions of fear, but through the knowledge that I've obtained through the many books I've read,I was able,as I'm always able,to just dismiss the false fears. YOU CAN OVERCOME & WILL SURVIVE! YOU ARE NOT CRAZY/DYING,etc.

Nice one Jo. You are a hero.

What advice do you have for sufferers who have had the Panic Disorders and have come through the other end only to be paid a visit from the dreaded Panic Monster again at a later date? As I've mentioned, Life is a marathon not a race and just because you have overcome it now doesn't mean to say it wont appear again. Thats one of the nasty attributes of a Panic Attack...Just when you think your over them, they pop right up to let you know they're there!

The only way I could possibly see myself going back down the road of panic disorder, would be if I somehow forgot everything I've learned about it. And that's highly unlikely.

If its come back, start READING! Educate yourself!

Notice what Guest and I have in common? We've educated ourselves with as much material as possible. And the moment it ever tries to rear its ugly head, we know how to disarm it.

For many people, buying or reading so much info can be very confusing, there is so much conflicting advice.

That's why I wrote my method, I am not trying to sell you a copy, but, I took all the relevant info from over 10 years of research and compiled it into a manual that contains everything that a sufferer needs.

I read a few books that struck fear into my heart when I was a sufferer, I don't believe that people who have never suffererd are qualified to teach those that do... they just don't understand the condition and what makes the sufferer feel worse!

Alright, I understand the benefits of education. I have suffered with Panic Attacks for 15 years now. I am educated to the point of where I am actually interested in why we actually have them ie scientifically/medically.

You can educate yourself till you're blue in the face but does it not interest you as to why it happened to you. The actual point of WHY you had to go through the process of educating yourself about them, and if you did not educate yourself, would you still have them?? What your telling me is a bit like 'educating yourself' is like a wonder diet pill for an obese person. If it really works that well, then you should patent your idea and literature and market it. But thing is life is not that easy!

My point is once you have educated yourself and you STILL get attacks, what then?? That's what interests me. This notion of fight or flight or depression or hereditery, no-one really knows because there is not a book outhere that can tell you clearly WHY????If it was that easy we would all be sorted wouldn't we?

But as obesity, there is no wonder drug. Dont get me wrong, I am certainly not knocking your breakthrough, even though it sounds like I am, what ever works right? But I feel there is more to it, and experts just dont know. Please read my post 'Anyone feel like me?' You will get a jist where I am coming from. Please reply back as I'm very interested that you are interested enough to educate yourself about them.

Thanks Darren for the well wishes!

Most definitely, the knowledge and understanding that we are feeding our own fear can be quite a lot to swallow. I didn't really want to believe it at first, but the more I kept reading, the more I was able to accept that aspect of Anxiety & Panic.

All the Best Darren!

Jo
