I don't know if i'm going crazy or what, i'm 17 and i think i'm beginning to get panic attacks. They started about a month ago and i haven't been able to shake them, and they've just gotten worse. I sit in class in school and started feeling really nauseas, like i'm about to throw up and i get dizzy and shake and i get chills. It's not fun AT ALL. And then, i end up calling my dad to come pick me up because i think i'm sick or something (cuz i'm nauseas), but once i get home i'm okay for the most part and i end up just sleeping.

PLEASE HELP ME! I don't know what's going on, and it's gotten to the point where i'm scared to go to school in fear that i'll throw up in class or freak out in class or something. Do ya'll have any tips you can give me?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

What you are describing is EXACTLY what happened to me in high school. You're definitely not alone. I would be sitting there in class....and all of a sudden I'd get nauseous and have this overwelming feeling that I had to get out. I'd go home sick..then I'd feel better. The good news is: I overcame it and eventually went on to have a happy, "normal" high school life. I went on to college, also with no problems. The more disconcerting news is: I've had somewhat of a relapse (I'm 23 now) and am now searching for a new way out.

daughtermey: A few things that really helped me while I was in class were; I would breathe slowly and deeply. I would also distract myself when I felt anxious...I would focous on something else, anything, like a poster at the end of the room etc...One other thing that can help is letting your teachers know how you are feeling (tell them in private, of course). That way, if you absolutely need to leave...your teachers will understand why. I found that once my teachers understood this, it became easier for me to stay in class!

Best of luck to you. Hang in there.

I agree with Rockwell. You could totally feel trapped in the classroom..that you can't get out, or you're going to completely flip out in front of everyone. Sometimes, when I'm at work, and I'm sitting in my office all of the sudden I get these hot flashes and begin to lose it....what helps me sometimes is going into the bathroom and running cold water under my pulse points in my wrists and looking at myself in the mirror thinking in my head that it's ok.... this will pass.. there's nothing wrong with you.. just breathe..... Don't know if it will help you, just thought I'd shout it at ya! If it makes you feel better I'm 26 and I have panic attacks all the time. Sometimes they're dormant for a while, then other times it feels like they are around for weeks. It's a horrible feeling, but you're not alone... GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hi,
Im a newbie
I have suffered panic attacks since being pregnant and its been 2 years since having my son.
I began on medication for it about 4 weeks ago. It is brilliant. Lexapro and i can now sleep in the same bed as my partner.

Daughtermay i am also 17 and i now that it all feels seriously crazy because we are so young.
But beleive me we will overcome it.

I am leaving for a trip to the UK in 3 weeks which i was seriously worried about but since being on this medication it helps level your thinking and it takes away the irrasional thoughts.

Lexapro is excellent!!!!
