Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm going by the psuedanim (spelt wrong I know) of Abba, not my real name ~ just incase anyone recognises the accent!!
I've been taking Lexapro for a month now and do feel better, but had a worry about my glass of wine each evening as it appears (since I have just yesterday noticed) I shouldn't drink whilst taking Lexapro. Is a small glass or two a problem? does anyone know? It seems extreme not to be able to have red wine when it's so good 'medicinally' !! (obviously my only reason for having it.........).
Any advice or comments welcome and thanks for your time,
Abba xxx:confused:

Hi Abba

Please don't take my word as fact because I'm not a doctor. I am just speaking from my own experience.

I take Cipralex, which I believe is the UK trade name for Lexapro, and I drink about 6 cans of lager every night. As far as I know, the reason you shouldn't drink with it is because it stops the drug from working and may amplify any sedative effect of the drug.

This is a quote from US Pharmacist web site on the subject "There are few serious or possible pharmacologic consequences of drinking alcohol with the newer antidepressant drugs. The greater concern and focus should be to warn that because patients have a mood disturbance and are taking an antidepressant to improve their mood, alcohol is counterproductive in that it may only worsen their mood disturbance. " - http://www.uspharmacist.com/index.asp?page=ce/2989/default.htm

Sincerely hope this helps

Chris
